What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture has been used as a health care modality for over 3000 years. During a treatment, very fine needles are inserted gently into specific points in the body along meridian pathways. This stimulates the movement of energy in the body, which allows healing to occur. Points are selected according to the specific pattern of disharmony presented.

Acupuncture helps to prevent illness by improving the overall functioning of the body’s immune and organ systems.

How does Acupuncture work?

According to Chinese Medicine Theory, Qi or energy travels in meridians through the body and over its surfaces. Qi flows through the meridians to nourish the organs, tissues, muscles, bones and joints. When Qi is abundant and flowing freely, the body will be in a state of balance and health, and there will be sufficient energy for the body’s functions.

When Qi is deficient, stuck, or flowing in the wrong direction there will either be disease, pain, or loss of function.
